Prime Minister Borut Pahor meets King Harald V of Norway: 'Norway sets an example to young democracies'

At Villa Podrožnik this afternoon, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia met King Harald V of Norway who is on a three-day state visit to the Republic of Slovenia with his wife, Queen Sonja of Norway.

   

The Prime Minister and His Majesty King Harald of Norway, agreed that Norway and Slovenia enjoy close and friendly relations, both on a bilateral and multilateral level, and that there are no outstanding issues between the two countries, with the high-level royal visit only serving to further strengthen the good ties between them. King Harald and Prime Minister Pahor mostly focused on current political affairs, particularly on the issues of the Southern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

   

The Prime Minister said that Norway sets an example to all young democracies, and expressed his admiration for Norwegian foreign policy, which is defined as the fight for human rights and peaceful conflict resolution.

   

During their discussions, the Prime Minister drew attention to the successful levels of cooperation displayed within the framework of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the important signing of the memoranda of understanding for accession to the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009–2014.

   

As part of the royal visit, the Prime Minister will attend a formal dinner held in Brdo pri Kranju in the evening, and a concert where a Norwegian music duo is performing tomorrow at Ljubljana Castle.
