The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Borut Pahor, today officially opened the Rimske terme spa in Rimske Toplice. He said that this day should be considered a milestone in the development of Rimske Toplice with its surroundings and people who live there.

According to Pahor, the management of Rimske terme has succeeded in accomplishing 'mission impossible'. 'During the reconstruction process, you were spared nothing:  problems ranged from the proper definition of the concept of a health resort; overly expensive renovation; the unsuitability of facilities for categorisation; an unexpected landslide which further increased reconstruction costs; the hiring of a contractor; the dismissal of the overpaid construction company, Vegrad, from the building site; calling on the assurances of the construction company, SCT, to assist in the search for new contractors; and six months of tough negotiations with the banks for a loan,' said the Prime Minister.

He pointed out that the spa reconstruction story was the brainchild of six governments and several ministries, but now the project is finally ready to obtain ISO certification. As regards attracting visitors, Pahor said that focus should be directed at this time to adding finishing touches and to await the results with courage and patience. He believes that we all would like Slovenia to be a tidy country, a place attractive to guests with high expectations, not only for its natural beauty and charm but also for the quality of its health resorts and tourist services. He is further convinced that the long-term success of Rimske terme can be ensured only by good management and the search for a strategic partner to bring added value to the project and shorten the time needed to earn an optimal income.

Pahor explained that the investment into the renovation of Rimske terme was a risky but bold move. 'It seems that, in Slovenia, we sometimes succeed in things which appear unfeasible at first. As a nation, this has helped us to resist the winds of history, and I am convinced it is our toughness, dedication, diligence and desire to fight and win that will protect us against all the difficulties to be faced in the future. Therefore, we look to the future with confidence rather than with fear,' added the Prime Minister.
