Prime Minister Borut Pahor meets Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today received the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov. The principal topic of discussion was bilateral cooperation between the two countries, with a particular emphasis on economic cooperation. The Bulgarian President expressed his satisfaction that the expansion of economic trade between the two countries is slowly getting back to pre-crisis levels. Trade in both goods and services is gaining momentum, and has the potential to increase. The Bulgarian President expressed his appreciation of the active policy Slovenia is pursuing in the Western Balkans.

 

Pahor and Parvanov also discussed cooperation among the European Union Member States and in the context of international organisations. President Parvanov expressed his support for Slovenia to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2012–2013 while Pahor assured that Slovenia would support Bulgaria's candidacy when presented. The two statesmen also exchanged views on the future of the European Union and on the impact of the economic crisis on the development of events globally. At the conclusion of their discussions, Prime Minister Pahor and President Parvanov also touched upon the current situation in North Africa and the Middle East.
