Prime Minister Borut Pahor today took part in a charity football match in Bilje pri Novi Gorici as the patron of honour. Many members of the Slovenian national football team, athletes and politicians also participated in the match. The match organisers will donate the funds raised to the LU Institute and the Disabled Youth Foundation 'Sparrow of Hope'. In the first half, Prime Minister Pahor played in goal for Valter Birsa's team, and in the second half he played in defence for Tim Matavž's team. In final seconds of the match, Prime Minister Pahor launched an aggressive counter-attack, dribbled past several opponents and scored the winning goal.

After the match Prime Minister Pahor said that he hoped the event would become a tradition, 'because it is important for children to also have role models who are athletes. If you want to succeed in the world of sport, you have to keep away from cigarettes, drugs and all other things that have no place in a disciplined life. This is the message we would like to send out here: that it is worthwhile investing in one's dreams of success, which is the result of hard work, as the path to success is no walk in the park. And the sooner young people realise that, the sooner they will find their way — not only in sports, but in life in general.'
