The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, this evening attended the main ceremony held in Prekmurje on the occasion of the Day of Slovenes in Prekmurje Incorporated into the Mother Nation. In his short statement to the press after the ceremony, Prime Minister Pahor said that the State and local communities, as well as the public, should strive to preserve that which makes Slovenians a nation – a loyalty to our national identity.

In this context, he stressed that national identity was only one of the identities of contemporary man, but is, in these modern times, still important. 'Coming from Austria, where after several decades a significant step forward has been taken in efforts made in relation to bilingual signposts, this ceremony inspires me with the hope and confidence necessary for us to overcome the difficult times ahead,' said Prime Minister Pahor expressing his belief that we will be better equipped to face the challenges lying ahead than we were in the crisis of the past few years.
