Prime Minister Pahor notifies National Assembly on entrusting Ministry of the Interior to Minister of Justice

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today announced to the National Assembly that after the resignation of the Interior Minister, Katarina Kresal, the management of the Ministry of the Interior will be temporarily entrusted to the Minister of Justice, Aleš Zalar.  A survey of the practices of other European countries, taking country-specific systems into consideration, has revealed that nine (Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland) have a similar organisational structure to that proposed today by Prime Minister Pahor.

As the work carried out by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice often overlap, it would be sensible to consider merging the two ministries in order to contribute to their increased efficiency; however, this would need to be carried out with a substantial restructuring and reorganisation of the Government's work.
