At the invitation of Prime Minister Borut Pahor, German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrives on a working visit to Slovenia

At the invitation of Prime Minister Pahor, the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, will pay a working visit to Slovenia on 30 August 2011. Chancellor Merkel arrives in Slovenia at a time when Slovenia is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its independence and 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Slovenia and the Federal Republic of Germany, which adds to the significance of the visit.

   

The main purpose of the visit is to strengthen friendly relations and enhance the already intensive political dialogue between the two countries, to augment economic cooperation and exchange views on the current economic and financial crisis. Discussions will be held on topical issues faced by the EU and the wider international community; particular attention will be paid to the situation in the eurozone and the further steps to be taken to strengthen the euro and develop economic growth in the EU. After the Chancellor's visits to Zagreb and Belgrade, she will exchange views with Prime Minister Pahor on the situation in the Western Balkans and the European perspective on the region. They will also address the situation in the South Mediterranean. During the visit, a Joint Declaration by the German Chancellor and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia will be adopted on enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries.
