Prime Minister Borut Pahor today met with Slovenian Human Rights Ombudsman Zdenka Čebašek-Travnik who delivered the Ombudsman's regular annual report to the Prime Minister. In his statement to the press, Mr Pahor said that the Government will maintain the well-established good practice of inviting the Ombudsman to one of the Government's sessions to discuss its regular report and the Government's response report.

Ms Čebašek-Travnik said that the report highlights, in particular, the inefficiency of the inspection services and certain legislative shortcomings. Thus, the HRO has established that the efficiency of the inspection services is not sufficient in providing an adequate level of legal certainty to people. In this context, she also pointed out that the inspection services are only part of the relevant supervision. 'It is obvious that the inspection services do not function in the way the users would like them to,' affirmed Prime Minister Pahor who then announced that the Government, within the powers at its disposal, will address the issue of the performance of the labour, environmental and social inspection services as a matter of priority in the coming period.  As a step in the right direction, the HRO suggested the reallocation of employees within the public sector, and additional education in order to avoid the need for new employment.
