BARBRA BOROTA, STATE SECRETARY

Barbra Borota was born on 23 February 1958 in Ljubljana and holds a university degree in English language and literature, and history of art.

 

From 1985 to 1992 she coordinated international projects at the Jožef Stefan Institute.

From 1992 to 1994 she worked as project manager at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva.

 

In 1995 she joined the Delegation of the European Commission in Slovenia where she served as an adviser on political affairs and Slovenia's EU accession, focusing on political criteria for membership, and bilateral and multilateral relations. From 2005 to 2008, she then worked at the Prime Minister's Office as a special adviser to the Prime Minister on European affairs with an emphasis on the preparations for Slovenia's EU Council Presidency and its activities during the Presidency.

 

From July 2008 to November 2008, she held the position of State Secretary heading the Government Office for European Affairs. She continued her career until 2011 in the reorganised Government Office for Development and European Affairs as Secretary and Minister's Special Envoy, presenting Slovenia's positions on EU issues to countries holding the rotating EU Council Presidency, EU institutions and member states.
