TONE KAJZER, STATE SECRETARY

Short Resume of the State Secretary, Ambassador Tone Kajzer’s professional engagement
                                                                          
State Secretary, Ambassador Tone Kajzer started his diplomatic career seventeen years ago when he joined Slovenian diplomatic service.  During his career, before he was appointed State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office in September 2012 his last position was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic in Finland and to the Republic of Estonia. Before his appointment to the position of Ambassador to Finland and Estonia in 2009 Ambassador Kajzer was holding responsible positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad. Before his assignment as the Second Secretary at the Embassy of Slovenia in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1996 he was working in the Diplomatic Protocol at the Slovenian Foreign Ministry in Ljubljana.

 

After his return from the Arab Republic of Egypt he was first appointed as the Deputy National Coordinator for the South East Europe in the context of the Stability Pact for South East Europe and in 2004 he was appointed as Deputy National Coordinator for the Slovenia’s Official Development Cooperation Program (ODA). In this capacity he was tasked to prepare the Law on Slovenia’s ODA which was later successfully adopted in the Slovenian Parliament in 2006.

 

Before his appointment as Ambassador of Slovenia to Finland and before he presented the Letters of Credence to the then President of Finland Mrs. Tarja Halonen in April 2009, he was working in the Slovenia’s Foreign Minister’s Cabinet as the personal adviser to the Foreign Minister on the border delimitation issue and later on he assumed the position of the Director of the Department for EU Enlargement.

 

During his more than three and a half years work in Helsinki as the Ambassador of Slovenia to Finland, where he was also performing as the non-residential Ambassador of Slovenia to Estonia, Ambassador Kajzer successfully organized many high ranking visits from Slovenia. In this regard it is necessary to mention some of them such is State visit of Slovenian President to Finland in May 2010 and official visit of the President of Slovenian Parliament to Finland in October 2010. Beside this he has also successfully organized official visit of Slovenian President to Estonia in May last year and official visit of the President of Slovenian State Assembly to Estonia in September 2012.

 

During his mandate in Helsinki Ambassador Kajzer, with the unselfish and comprehensive help of his spouse Milena, organized numerous other projects from the business to culture and even sport events. At his work he was always using practical and result oriented approach. In November 2011 Ambassador Kajzer organized in Helsinki Tennis & Business event where successful “merger” of diplomatic, business, sport and social “components” were achieved in his professional endeavors to further develop and deepen the cooperation among Slovenia and Finland in all relevant fields.  

 

With his appointment as the State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Ambassador Kajzer is continuing his work to further enhance the economic diplomacy as one of the most important components of the comprehensive foreign policy of the Republic of Slovenia which final goal is to – through intensive and sustainable international cooperation – contribute to the global peaceful coexistence and to the well being of Slovenia and its people.
