The Slovenian Prime Minister, Borut Pahor, today transferred the duties of his office to the incoming Prime Minister, Janez Janša. Mr Pahor also took this opportunity to submit a report on the Slovenian Government's activities during the 2008–2011 period to the newly elected Prime Minister, and wished him every success.

On this occasion, Mr Janša emphasised that "we are aware of the challenges ahead and of the difficult times and problems that need to be addressed." Moreover, he noted that it was during the previous term of office that Slovenia entered the period of the emerging crisis. He stressed that, though there might have been divergent opinions on some matters, "trust in the Slovenian people is of vital importance".

"We both know that Slovenia has much to offer and that, in its efforts, it would be much easier for the country if the political sphere were capable of working together," said Mr Janša. Moreover, he suggested to Mr Pahor that, in light of the change to the political situation, it would be quite positive if, in the coming years, the political decision-makers could prove that "in cooperation between the Government and opposition parties, a level of cooperation that surpasses certain traditional frameworks and serves for the common good of the nation working together is possible".

The Slovenian Prime Minister Janša thanked the former Prime Minister for all the efforts he made for the benefit of Slovenia during his term of office.
