The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, receives congratulations from UN Secretary-General and EU leaders

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, continues to receive many messages of congratulations on his recent election to the position of Prime Minister. The UN Secretary-General and the EU's leaders have sent him their congratulations.

 

In his letter, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki-moon, stressed that Slovenia has proved to be a constructive and trustworthy partner in the UN. In this regard, he drew particular attention to Slovenia's efforts for stability in the Western Balkans and the promotion of the Millennium Development Goals, which are a response to the challenges of contemporary society.

 

Among the European heads of state and government who have congratulated Prime Minister Janez Janša were the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, Mariano Rajoy; the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, David Cameron; the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Christofias; the Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic, Pedro Passos Coelho; and the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Mario Monti. The Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Manmohan Singh also offered his congratulations to Prime Minister Janez Janša on his election.

 

In their letters, the EU's leaders emphasised the importance of a strong and integrated Europe and that good bilateral relations should be continued in a spirit of friendship and understanding in all areas. The EU heads of state and government expressed their firm belief that times of crisis can be overcome by working together and pointed out, in particular, the importance of carrying out the measures necessary in a systematic and constructive manner. In their opinion, the primary objective of the measures adopted by the EU Member States should be to kick-start employment and economic growth.
