Prime Minister Janez Janša receives Gazprom CEO

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today met with the Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, as part of the Gazprom delegation's working visit to Slovenia.


Mr Janša and Mr Miller's discussions focused on the progress of the South Stream project and related plans for the construction of a gas pipeline in Slovenia, which should commence in December 2012. Mr Miller informed Mr Janša that the estimated value of the investment in Slovenia is around EUR 1 billion. A company incorporated in Slovenia and jointly owned by the Russian Gazprom and Slovenian Plinovodi d.o.o. will be in charge of the project.

 

Prime Minister Janez Janša highlighted the important role to be played by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning in the implementation of the project, particularly with regard to its location. Mr Janša and Mr Miller agreed that the EUR 1 billion investment presents a great opportunity for the Slovenian economy, and an important step forward in the efforts for higher economic and employment growth in Slovenia.
