The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today met with the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn. In their talks Mr Janša and Mr Hahn discussed the proposed Multiannual Financial Framework 2014–2020, focusing especially on the cohesion policy.

Mr Janša took the view that the cohesion policy is vital for Slovenia, as every means available to provide impetus to the economy should be applied in times of fiscal consolidation. He emphasised that the Government had today reviewed the utilisation of cohesion policy funds during the 2007–2013 period. The Prime Minister believes it is essential that Slovenia maintains the highest possible level of cohesion funds for the next programming period. Commissioner Hahn expressed his belief that the Commission had presented a realistic proposal for the next financial framework, although the final outcome of negotiations and the level of funding available for the cohesion policy are still to be confirmed.
