The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today visited Metal Ravne, where he addressed the representatives of the host company, the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ) and local communities, and other distinguished guests on the occasion of the opening of the new Electroslag Remelting (ESR) plant. This plant will significantly improve the quality of steel produced in Slovenia. Although the Slovenian steel industry faced specific challenges and underwent restructuring, it now annually contributes 3% of GDP. He was pleased to note that Slovenia boasts a successful production company with nearly 400 years of tradition.

Asian countries, with China at the forefront, are the major producers of steel, and control the global market in steel, which yet again poses new challenges. The Prime Minister also welcomed the company management's timely and wise investments in innovation and modernising technology. "This technology enables the company to offer a wide selection of high quality products with value added and to position itself on different markets." He further commended Metal Ravne for its relations with its workers since the company has been ranked among the 101 best employers in the Golden Thread survey for the fifth consecutive year. Although aided by technological development, the credit for the company's achievements goes first and foremost to its nearly 1,000 employees.

The Slovenian Government prepared a package of very important measures that were adopted by the National Assembly in the past two months, which will improve the business environment in Slovenia. "With the recent amendments to tax regulations, Slovenia has created the most favourable investment climate ever in its history," the Prime Minister added. Slovenia has embarked on a path towards economic recovery and has somewhat loosened its grip on the economy. By way of conclusion, he wished the company every success in achieving its objectives through great determination, a will of iron and nerves of steel.
