Prime Minister Janez Janša today meets Slovenian community in Lemont
On the occasion of his visit to the United States, where the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, and his delegation will attend the NATO Summit taking place in the coming days, the Slovenian Prime Minister will today meet the Slovenian community in Lemont, which is the largest and most active Slovenian community in the United States.
The community provides a rich cultural life, and organises a series of exhibitions, cultural and dance events and other social gatherings. It also devotes special attention to the mother tongue and, to this end, organises Slovenian language classes. During the 2010–2011 academic year, between 55 and 60 pupils attended these classes. The Slovenians living in that region – most of whom are from Prekmurje – come together to form a true community based on the principles of solidarity. Prime Minister Janša will be welcomed by Jurček Žmauc, the Consul-General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland, Martin Hozjan, the President of the Board of the Slovenian Cultural Center, and John P. Vidmar, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Lemont. Within the framework of the meeting with representatives of the Slovenian community, he will also address the audience.
During today's programme, Prime Minister Janša will also meet representatives of the Slovenian-American Business Association.
