Following the address to the deputies in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, the President of the German Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša.

They continued the discussion on European topical issues which they had started on 9 May 2012 during Prime Minister Janša’s official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. They exchanged their views on the crisis related to the stability of euro in light of the forthcoming repeated elections in Greece. The President of the German Bundestag highlighted that the rules on fiscal stability should be enshrined in the constitution since this makes them more independent from the daily political developments. Mr Lammert and Mr Janša were of one mind that the agreed rules must be respected within the monetary union.

During the discussion, the President of the German Bundestag also supported the efforts of the Slovenian Government aimed at attaining fiscal balance and the reform measures focused on economic growth and employment.
