The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today received Yevgenia Tymoshenko, the daughter of Ukraine's former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, and the opposition deputy in the Ukrainian Parliament, Sergey Vlasenka.

They informed the Prime Minister of the judicial proceedings and the political pressures exerted on the opposition leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, by the present Ukrainian government shortly before the elections scheduled for this autumn. Yulia Tymoshenko fell seriously ill due to brutal proceedings and is currently in hospital where she was transferred from the Kharkov prison only under pressure from the international community and the visiting German doctors.

During the conversation, Prime Minster Janša joined the appeals of the international community, particularly of the European Parliament and of a number of EU leaders, who urged the Ukrainian authorities to respect human rights, provide fundamental political freedoms, equal opportunities to the opposition to participate in the political process and urged against abusing the judiciary in disabling political rivals.
