Prime Minister Janša to attend UN General Assembly meeting, presenting an international initiative on effective prevention of the crime of genocide

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, accompanied by a delegation, will attend the general debate of the 67th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York which will be held from 24th September to 27th September 2012. 

 

The main theme of this year’s General Assembly will be the peaceful settlement of international disputes. In the general debate, Slovenia will be represented by Prime Minister Janša, who will, on this occasion, also present the "Initiative on the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG)". Prime Minister Janša assumed the presidency of the Initiative within the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy. He already discussed the Initiative with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during his recent visit to Slovenia, and informally with several other Heads of State and Government.

 

The Prime Minister’s speech in the general debate of the UN National Assembly is scheduled for 27 September 2012, at approximately 12.30 p.m. local time. 

 

On the margins of the 67th UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Janša will hold some bilateral meetings with his colleagues from other countries, he will also attend the formal reception hosted by the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and meet UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.
