The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, receives the Chairman of the Board of the Hitachi Corporation of Japan, Takashi Kawamura

Today in Maribor, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, met the Chairman of the Board of Japan's Hitachi Corporation. Takashi Kawamura, who is on a visit to Slovenia also as the Chairman of the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee.

 

Prime Minister Janša and his guest discussed particularly the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries as Hitachi, the fourth largest corporation in Japan, plans to further consolidate its position in Europe.

 

 Prime Minister Janša welcomed the strengthening of bilateral relations with Japan in the areas of culture and tourism as well as the reconstruction and modernisation of infrastructure, particularly rail and energy. The discussion also touched on the possibility of the Hitachi Corporation's involvement in these projects. The Prime Minister and his guest also agreed on the importance of the earliest possible conclusion of the proposed EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.

 

The Prime Minister welcomed the cooperation between the two countries in the area of culture as a positive example, since it creates synergies for cooperation also in other areas. This has been demonstrated by the project for Maribor, the European Capital of Culture 2012, as an example of successful integration between the cultural and the economic spheres. Later in the day, Prime Minister Janez Janša and his wife, Urška Bačovnik Janša, attended the event International Youth in Concert with musicians from Europe and Japan.
