Prime Minister Janez Janša today visited the Ministry of Defence and met with the Minister of Defence, Aleš Hojs, the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Dobran Božič and other members of the Ministry and of Slovenian Armed Forces who acquainted him with priority tasks of the Ministry, the preparation of guidance documents, the immediate goals of the Slovenian Armed Forces and its envisaged transformation. After the meeting the Prime Minister Janez Janša said that the goals of the Slovenian Armed forces, as presented, were adequate, realistic and attainable, and that he was confident that the current team at the Ministry was capable to accomplish them.

″We discussed ways to postpone for two years the attainment of certain goals envisaged for the following two years' period which, from the fiscal point of view, will be among the most strenuous in the Slovenian history, our commitments to the North Atlantic Alliance, and how to act at home in order to keep Slovenia safe considering that the funds for our own defence are actually being reduced year after year" said Prime Minister Janez Janša in his statement to the media.

According to the Prime Minister, it is imperative to strengthen the operational formation, reduce the number of command units, and search for unused resources; as during the discussion on the budget the Government has made it absolutely clear that all heads of systems and subsystems had the responsibility to find such resources. ″Of course, this does not mean that a reduction of wage and salary costs should be simply translated into a reduction of staff; often this is not possible, however, there are reserves and they must be found″, he added.

Later that day the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence visited the Combined Operations Centre of the Force Command in Vrhnika.
