The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today began the Government's visit to the Zasavje and Posavje regions as a part of regular visits of the Government to Slovenian regions. In the afternoon, he and the Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Radovan Žerjav, visited Kovis d.o.o. in Brežice, one of the more successful companies in the Posavje region, which specialises in the manufacture of high-quality metal products for the railway sector and is present in all important global markets. The company's management emphasised the good business results achieved despite certain systemic restrictions, and the Prime Minister pointed out that in July the Government adopted legislative amendments to improve and simplify the granting of building permits.. Within the third package of measures for the promotion of economic growth, the Government plans several changes in the field of spatial planning, environmental procedures, acquisition of land for construction, and land policy.

Within today's visit, Prime Minister Janša also gave an interview for the local television Vaš kanal in Novo mesto, in which he said in reply to the journalist's question on reforms affecting many people, that all reforms of this Government have been prepared with the opposite aim: "All adjustments will be made so that the people will be affected significantly less than would be the case if the proposed measures are not implemented." In the interview Prime Minister Janša also explained the Government's position on the second unit of the Krško Nuclear Plant, the Krško Hydroelectric Power Plant and the third development axis. He said that the Government, despite being under great burden dealing with the current situation, strives to maintain the same level of concern for the regional issues and therefore still visits all Slovenian regions. "Unfortunately, we have to make up for the delays with regard to many issues that could already have been resolved, and start at the point where the process stopped," added the Prime Minister.

The main part of the Government's visit to the region will take place tomorrow when the ministerial team will gather at the usual morning working session. The ministries will analyse development challenges and opportunities of the region. Afterwards, the Prime Minister will attend the opening of the new plant wastewater treatment system in Lisca nad Sevnico and, later in the day, the meeting with the mayors, entrepreneurs, deputies and councillors of the Zasavje region. The schedules of Slovenian Ministers include various meetings with the representatives of companies, administrative units, municipalities, crafts, and judicial, educational and other regional and local institutions.
