The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today received the Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, Nikolay Nikiforov, who is currently on a visit to the Republic of Slovenia as co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Slovenian-Russian Commission for Trade and Economic and Scientific and Technological Co-operation between the Republic of Slovenia and the Russian Federation. Prime Minister Janša and Minister Nikiforov agreed that Slovenia and Russia have always maintained friendly relations and developed excellent cooperation in all areas, which is also reflected in their intense bilateral meetings both at political and economic levels.

Prime Minister Janša and his Russian guest also touched upon the work of the Intergovernmental Slovenian-Russian Commission for Trade and Economic and Scientific and Technological Co-operation, with Mr Janša commending the Commission’s target-oriented approach, which creates very good conditions in particular for the implementation of joint economic projects between the Slovenian and Russian business communities. On this occasion, Prime Minister Janša reaffirmed his interest in intensifying economic cooperation in target industries and increasing the mutual investments, which he had already highlighted during his recent visit to Moscow, where he was accompanied by a sizeable economic delegation.

Minister Nikiforov agreed with the Prime Minister Janša’s view and confirmed the Russian Federation’s significant interest in further strengthening the partnership with Slovenia, where the Intergovernmental Slovenian-Russian Commission is considered an important instrument for mutual agreements on specific forms of cooperation.
