The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today voted in the elections for the President of the Republic of Slovenia. In the statement to the press, he said: "For the first time in all the years Slovenia has free elections, I went to elections to cast a vote against. I hope that today Slovenia gets a new President of the Republic who is better at uniting, one who is capable of encouraging institutions to cooperate and overcome the difficulties, which are considerable."

The Prime Minister also commented on the recent protests, which were allegedly organised by far-right extremist groups: "There were many extremists at these protests, left-wing and right-wing. We saw far-right symbols, but also far-left ones. There were even more of the latter. The shouts were also similar. The slogans we heard against the Government and the European Union have apparently united extremists of both wings."

In response to the question on how he would comment on the statement of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, that the Prime Minister threatens Slovenian citizens with his statements about the protests, Prime Minister Janša said: "If the national television had shown my statement in full, people would have had the opportunity to form their own opinions."
