The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, sent a letter of congratulations to the newly elected President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, after he had been sworn in at a formal session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. Prime Minister Janša wrote, among other things, the following: “You took the office of President of the Republic at a very crucial time, at a turning point which can be compared to the critical times twenty-two years ago when the independent Slovenian state was coming into existence. At present, a united leadership and clear vision are needed, and in this context the role of the President of the Republic is very important.”

In his letter of congratulations, Prime Minister Janša also wrote that he had followed the pre-election debates and understood the messages by the new President of the Republic as aimed at calming down the tensions and as a call for reason addressed to all, not only to a narrow circle of actors participating in political competition. “I greatly appreciate this,” wrote Prime Minister Janša and continued: “Almost every day, we witness disagreements which are supported by no real arguments, are hardly linked to any reasonable logic and show poor comprehension of the severity of the actual situation.”

Prime Minister Janša concluded his letter of congratulations by underlining the message of Independence and Unity Day, which tells us that we are capable of doing everything and overcoming any obstacles along the way if we are united as a nation.

“Unless we cooperate and listen to each other, we will not succeed. I extend my sincere wishes that your term of office be distinguished by seeking consent and cooperation. This will also be a success for us all.”
