The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, arrived today afternoon on a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan. The official delegation accompanying him includes the Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Radovan Žerjav, and a sizeable business delegation consisting of representatives of key priority sectors. At the beginning of the visit, Prime Minister Janša met with the members of the Slovenian delegation and stressed in his opening address that the Azerbaijani market presents a great opportunity for Slovenian companies.

Prime Minister Janša expressed his acknowledgement and gratitude to the representatives of approximately 50 Slovenian companies and organisations for having recognised Azerbaijan as a land of opportunities. "As entrepreneurs you are well aware where you can find the best opportunities," he said and estimated that a business administration environment will be created in the coming months to even further improve the opportunities for economic cooperation between Slovenia and Azerbaijan.  The geostrategic position, rich natural resources and the high ambitions demonstrated by Azerbaijan bring the country greater opportunities every year.  "I would like to thank you for having recognised these opportunities and for keeping the Slovenian economy above water," emphasised Prime Minister Janša and highlighted the importance of export orientation of Slovenian companies.  "The opportunities beyond our market are crucial for our economic development and the well-being of our state," added the Prime Minister.

The Azerbaijani market, rich in oil and natural gas, which has recently also intensively diversified into other industries, presents one of the priority markets for enhanced internationalisation of the Slovenian economy, an objective into which the Slovenian Government has invested considerable efforts. The priority sectors for cooperation with Azerbaijan being also represented by the companies participating in the business delegation are the following: energy industry, renewable energy sources, construction, food-processing industry, tourism, information technology and pharmacy. There is also a great interest in cooperation in the areas of higher education and university education.
