A memorandum of understanding which was signed today between the two Governments on resolving the issue of the former Ljubljanska banka within the succession negotiations "settles the last unresolved issue hindering the final ratification of the Croatian Accession Treaty with the EU," Prime Minister Janez Janša said at the press conference held after the signing of the memorandum; he thanked everyone who, in the last year, took part in the process to resolve this issue and were engaged in seeking a compromise enabling both parties to be winners.

Prime Minister Janez Janša explained that today's solution enables the Slovenian Government to submit the act ratifying the Treaty of Accession of Croatia to the European Union to the National Assembly this week. In view of the agreement reached by its Committee on Foreign Policy several days ago, the National Assembly is to commence a procedure for the ratification of the Croatian Accession Treaty and complete it when the Republic of Slovenia receives from the Republic of Croatia the instrument of ratification of the Memorandum signed today. Prime Minister Janez Janša believes that the ratification process of the Croatian Accession Treaty can be concluded by the end of the month. He assured his Croatian counterpart Zoran Milovanović that "Slovenia looks forward to cooperating with the friendly neighbouring Croatia within the European Union."
