The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today congratulated Slovenia's Roma communities on the occasion of the forthcoming International Roma Day. In his message, the Prime Minister wrote that cultural and ethnical diversity enrich any nation. "Diversity can lead to the creation of ties, while the challenges we face on this road constitute new solutions leading to our common goals. Success attained in one area generates the strength required to control the other. Then we catch sight of a beautiful high tree growing up from a sapling that took root deep in the ground," the Prime Minister observed.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the development of mutual cooperation with the Roma communities is well underway in numerous areas, and that other possibilities still exist to provide for the implementation of special rights for the Roma community, particularly in the field of education, culture and employment. In his words, the National Programme for Roma for the term 2010–2015, adopted by the Government, constitutes a solid basis for future work.

In his message of congratulations, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that "we will continue to make best use of the opportunities for strengthening joint cooperation regarding the integration of the Roma community as a minority into the rest of the population".
