"After a thorough examination of the revised budget proposal and the Fiscal Balance Act, the coalition government is united in terms of the direction indicated by these measures. We believe that we have no alternative if Slovenia is to exit the crisis. We are also aware that we are running out of time and that the coming days are crucial," the Prime Minister explained after the meeting between the Government and the coalition deputies. He stressed that the coalition remains strong and will, it seems, have to shoulder all the responsibility for the measures proposed since, after today's meeting with the opposition parties, it is clear that, in these times of crisis, they are prepared to leave Slovenia in the lurch.

In his statement to the press, the Prime Minister reiterated that the coalition remains united as far as the scope of the measures and their direction is concerned. "The numbers in the revised budget are not contrived – they reflect the current situation, and if one item is raised, another will have to fall. We are trying to generate these effects, which are vital in order to provide fiscal stability in Slovenia," the Prime Minister added, and continued that "in 2012 Slovenia has faced up to reality and we will see whether we can cope".

He reiterated that, in light of the stance taken by the opposition parties on the incorporation of the golden fiscal rule into the Constitution, it is impossible do anticipate exactly when the National Assembly could expect to adopt a final decision in this regard.
