Prime Minister Janez Janša receives representatives of Italy’s Slovenian community.

The Slovenian Prime Minister, Janez Janša, and the Minister for Slovenians Abroad, Ljudmila Novak, today met with representatives of Italy’s Slovenian minority: the Democratic Party Senator, Tamara Blažina; the Provincial Secretary of the Slovenian and Italian United Left, Stojan Spetič; the Provincial Secretary of the Slovenian Community Party, Damjan Terpin; the Chairman of the Slovenian Cultural and Economic Association, Rudi Pavšič; and the Chairman of the Council of Slovenian Organisations, Drago Štoka.

 

During the meeting, the participants discussed the situation concerning Italy's Slovenian minority in light of Prime Minister Janša's working visit to Rome scheduled for tomorrow. The Slovenian minority representatives expressed their satisfaction with the frequency of the visits made this year by the two countries' senior representatives. They positively assessed the development of cooperation between the two countries and highlighted how crucial good neighbourly relations were for the Slovenian minority. They also presented their views on open issues concerning the Slovenian minority's activities in the areas of politics, finance, publishing and civil society.
