Prime Minister Janez Janša meets Branko Masleša, President of the Slovenian Supreme Court

Accompanied by Senko Pličanič, the Minister of Justice and Public Administration, the Slovenian Prime Minister, Janez Janša, met with the President and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Branko Masleša and Janko Marinko respectively.

 

The President of the Supreme Court informed the Prime Minister of his views regarding the further development of the Slovenian judiciary and the long-term priorities undertaken by the Supreme Court. Preferential policies in this area include efficiency and professional competence, with the main emphases on the elimination of backlogs, the reorganisation of operation processes and a proportionate distribution of workload among courts at the national level.

 

The Prime Minister welcomed the Supreme Court’s efforts and policies, and promised the Slovenian Government's full support to this end. He emphasised that courts do not only represent the judicial branch of power, but also ensure respect for the rule of law, a highly important component in the Slovenian economy’s development. Prime Minister Janša added that the Slovenian Government is making efforts to find solutions that could improve court working conditions in terms of professionalism and organisation. Moreover, the Prime Minister pointed out that the role and the authority of the judiciary need to be strengthened by clearly defining its relevant competences and responsibilities. The Slovenian Supreme Court will coordinate specific solutions with the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration.
