Prime Minister Janez Janša attends ceremonies commemorating Slovenian Statehood Day

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, and his wife, Urška Bačovnik Janša, this evening attended a holy mass for the homeland led by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ljubljana and President of the Slovenian Bishops' Conference, Monsignor Dr Anton Stres, in the Saint Nicholas' Cathedral in Ljubljana on the occasion of Slovenian Statehood Day.


The Slovenian Prime Minister then attended the commemorative session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia celebrating Slovenian Statehood Day. The participants were addressed by Jakob Presečnik, Vice President of the Slovenian National Assembly, as the speaker of honour. Within the cultural programme, the singer Eleonora performed.


In the evening, Prime Minister Janez Janša and his wife, Urška Bačovnik Janša, attended the main state ceremony commemorating Slovenian Statehood Day held at Congress Square in Ljubljana. The guiding idea behind this year's state ceremony was to present Slovenia as a whole, in the light of its diversity, regional variety, cultural habits and customs. A large number of folk dance groups from all over Slovenia, the Police Orchestra and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra participated in the ceremony.
