The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, met the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, who is concluding his state visit to Slovenia today.

Both agreed that bilateral relations were developing positively, particularly in terms of economic cooperation, which has grown in the last year despite the crisis. Concrete projects have been emerging which are contributing positively to the welfare of the citizens of both Slovenia and Italy.

The Slovenian PM and the Italian President also spoke about current European issues. They assessed that the conclusions of the last European Council meeting were positive, as they are oriented both towards increasing growth as well as the further stabilisation of public finances in member states.

Mr Janša presented the current economic situation in Slovenia and the Government’s efforts to improve the Slovenian business environment to make it more attractive for direct foreign investment.

They also discussed minority policies in both countries. The President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, praised the relationship of Slovenia with the Italian community living in the country, while the Slovenian Primer Minister presented the interests of the Slovenian community in Italy and expressed the hope that the Italian President could continue to provide support to positively address issues connected to the position of the Slovenian minority in Italy.
