The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today received the Minister of the National Defence of the People's Republic of China, Liang Guanglie. This is the first visit by a Chinese defence minister to Slovenia.

The discussion partners positively assessed the development of relations between the two countries. They particularly highlighted the mutual dialogue in the field of defence and the progress made since its establishment back in the time of the visit of the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša to China in 2007. On the one hand, the dialogue on defence issues is important with respect to strengthening the bilateral relations, while on the other hand, it is contributing to consolidation of international peace and security.

In addition, the Slovenian Prime Minister and the distinguished Chinese guest discussed economic cooperation between the two countries. They both agreed that Chinese initiative for cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe constitutes a solid framework for further strengthening of economic cooperation. At the same time, Prime Minister Janša acquainted Minister Guanglie with the Slovenian Government's measures aimed at enhancing the Slovenian business environment and its openness for foreign investments. They shared the opinion that all necessary conditions were in place for further development of economic cooperation in the future.
