The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia,  Alenka Bratušek, today, together with the State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Tamara Vonta, received representatives of Amnesty International Slovenia, Nataša Posel, Director, and Blaž Kovač, Project Manager, with whom they discussed issues of concern regarding the problem of the erased and the situation of the Roma in the Republic of Slovenia.

As regards the Roma situation, the participants agreed that a comprehensive solution of all problems related to the life of the Roma in Slovenia requires an active and efficient participation of several ministries, including those responsible for schooling and education as well as healthcare and infrastructure. Equal treatment of all citizens of the Republic of Slovenia also includes the right of access to drinking water as a basic human right, pointed out Prime Minister Bratušek, and ensured that this area, which requires the coordinated efforts of several ministries, will be addressed comprehensively.

As regards the problem of the erased, it was initially pointed out that the solving of this problem in the previous term was at a standstill and devoid of due attention. Therefore, the Prime Minister is committed to making sure that the competent ministry will address the issue of the erased as priority; Minister Virant has already announced that a draft of the Redressing of Injustices Act will be submitted for public debate in May. The adopted action plan is already being implemented, and the application for extension of the deadline for the adoption of compensation scheme for the erased has been submitted to the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Prime Minister agreed with the representatives of Amnesty International that injustice committed against these people has already been going on for two decades and must be resolved.
