The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, was today on her first visit to Maribor where she met with the leading representatives of the Municipality of Maribor. After a working meeting with the Mayor, Andrej Fištravec, the Prime Minister said that she would consider all the presented proposals for an enhanced development of the city of Maribor and announced that, shortly, the Government representatives would visit Maribor again, when discussion concerning solutions to the problems is expected to be more concrete. In her statement to the media, the Prime Minister stressed that the fact of choosing Maribor for her first visit in this term of office was no coincidence: "The position of this town, including the region and wider area, is extremely important. Looking back to history, many important events and beginnings of social changes happened right here, in Maribor."

"I have repeated several times that also during economic crisis, it is important to pay heed to positive changes and progress; for this reason, I welcome the fact that our talks are aimed at the future," said the Prime Minister. The Mayor of Maribor, Andrej Fištravec, pointed out that Maribor did not expect from the Prime Minister "motherly care, but rather tried to act proactively." The set of proposed thirty-five measures, which are key to Maribor future development, was coordinated by the municipal development agency and concerns the priorities regarding three main development areas of this second largest Slovenian city.

The Prime Minister, Alenka Bratušek, continued her visit to the Centre for Alternative and Autonomous Production (CAAP) and to Danica Vogrinec Residential Home for the Elderly. In the evening, she is to take part as a speaker of honour in the presentation of awards to the nation's best start-up businesses.
