The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, who is President of the EuroBasket 2013 Honorary Committee, convened today its first meeting. It was attended by the representatives of the organizers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karel Erjavec, the Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Jernej Pikalo, and the Mayors of four participating towns. EuroBasket 2013 is the biggest sporting event in the history of independent Slovenia; in addition to being an important sports event, it will have a positive impact on tourism, promotion of Slovenia and economic diplomacy. All project participants explained that preparations for the event are in full swing; all who will come to Slovenia to watch the competition or cheer for their teams will be encouraged to repeat the experience as tourists next year. The Honorary Committee meeting participants agreed that besides its other positive impacts, the European basketball championships – EuroBasket 2013 – will be an opportunity for Slovenia for twenty days to "breathe as one" while watching the biggest sporting event.
