Prime Minister receives Commissioner Hahn

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, today received the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Dr Johannes Hahn. They exchanged views on the use of cohesion funds in the current financial period and preparations for the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014–2020. 

 

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of the cohesion policy for Slovenia, in particular for the promotion of economic growth and creation of new jobs. She also assured Commissioner Hahn that the Slovenian Government was doing its utmost to accelerate the implementation of cohesion projects in order to optimise the use of available EU funds, and expressed her expectation that the European Commission would assist the Government in these efforts. With respect to the next financial perspective, Commissioner Hahn underlined the necessity to focus on a small number of cohesion policy programmes and strategic projects that are essential for enhancing competitiveness, thereby increasing economic growth and providing jobs. By way of conclusion the Prime Minister briefed the Commissioner on the action taken by the Slovenian Government to achieve fiscal consolidation and successfully implement structural reforms.
