Prime Minister on a two-day visit to Serbia

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, has today begun a two-day visit to the Republic of Serbia. On the first day she met with the representatives of associations of Slovenians living in Serbia. The highlight of her visit is tomorrow's meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, and a joint session of the Slovenian and Serbian governments.

 

The purpose of the visit is to intensify economic cooperation between the two countries. Bilateral economic relations are good and the volume of trade last year reached 1 billion euros.   At the end of 2012, Slovenian investments in Serbia stood at 1.331 billion euros. There are more than 1,300 Slovenian companies registered in Serbia which provide around 35,000 jobs. Serbia is an important economic partner for Slovenia and this visit will further enhance ties between the two countries.

 

In the premises of the Slovenian Embassy in Belgrade, Ms Alenka Bratušek addressed the representatives of the Slovenian associations in Serbia, saying: "Slovenians who have found a new homeland or employment, made friends or established families in Serbia, form a precious and indispensable bond between our two countries." The Slovenian Government will continue to strive for the best possible conditions for the work of these associations.

 

Tomorrow, she will hold talks with her counterpart, Mr Ivica Dačić. They will also co-chair a joint session of the two governments. As part of the visit she will be received by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Nebojša Stefanović, and will visit the company Gorenje – TIKI.
