The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, attended the ground-breaking ceremony to launch the construction works for Hydro Power Plant Brežice. In her address, she pointed out that the implementation of the project for construction of hydro power plants on the lower Sava river is a major step forward for the Slovenian energy sector. She thanked all involved in the project for their work done so far, adding that she sees cooperation and integration as bright spots for the energy sector and the entire economy in the region.

The Prime Minister went on to emphasise that "we have to strive for sustainable and secure energy supply in Slovenia. We need to promote renewable energy resources; all projects that are currently underway should focus on increasing the share of renewables and bring down greenhouse gas emissions. What is more, the completed construction of the entire HPP chain will substantially contribute to achieving renewable energy generation goals."

"With proper planning and professional implementation that has always been based on good cooperation with local authorities and the state, you have once again demonstrated that successful operation and added value can be achieved even during the economic crisis when investments in infrastructure projects lag behind our expectations.  I would be glad if you keep the optimism and willingness to work on the forthcoming preparations for construction of the Mokrice hydro power plant." The Prime Minister concluded by expressing her confidence that HPP Brežice will be put into operation in accordance with the scheduled dates.
