Today, the Prime Minister, Alenka Bratušek, had a meeting with the President Borut Pahor. In her statement for the media following the meeting, she stressed that elections in Slovenia would be held  early and that she would not hinder them

The PM said that she had taken time to think after the meeting of the Positive Slovenia party, and that she was standing by her decision not to lead the government without having the support of the party. “Early elections in Slovenia are a fact, and it is right that the people should say who is to hold the fate of Slovenia in their hands for the next four years. I am also obliged to act responsibly, and premature actions could hurt rather than benefit the country,” said the PM.

With regard to the timing of the early elections, the PM said: “If it were possible to hold early elections before the summer, I would be prepared to resign immediately. But because all the information and calculations suggest early elections are not possible before the autumn, I will agree with the other three leaders of the coalition on how to settle matters without damaging the country.”

According to the PM, it is crucial that the coalition partners try to find a way to lead Slovenia safely to early elections. “This was one of my main promises to the electorate when I assumed this office. All the figures in the last month are better compared to two years ago, including the number of newly employed, which we should also bear in mind when the coalition decides how to proceed. The time has come to replace the irresponsibility of some individuals with the fair, responsible and consistent policy of the others,” said the PM.
