Prime Minister attends a roundtable discussion "Women and the Future of Europe"

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, took part in a roundtable discussion on the topic of "Women and the Future of Europe", where, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Slovenia's EU membership, successful women of various professions, views and backgrounds shed light on the role and the contribution of women in society in Slovenia and Europe. Alongside the Prime Minister, the participants in the discussion included Marta Kos Marko, Slovenian Ambassador to Germany, Ljudmila Novak, Deputy to the National Assembly, Milica Antić Gaber, lecturer in sociology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, Uršula Cetinski, General Manager and Artistic Director of Slovensko mladinsko gledališče (The Slovenian Youth Theatre), Maja Makovec Brenčič, Vice-Rector of the University of Ljubljana, and Barbara Žibret Kralj, Director of Deloitte revizija, d.o.o. and leader of She XO initiative. The participants in the discussion exchanged their views on the role of women in society and their personal experiences in the political, academic and business arenas.

 

By way of introduction, the Primer Minister stressed that "women play an important role in the EU" and that Slovenia had recently significantly enhanced its credibility abroad. She also explained that "Slovenia enjoys a much better reputation in Brussels than it can imagine". In connection with women quotas, the Prime Minister said that the time for women is yet to come and that she will try herself to inspire as many women as possible to run for elections. The participants in the discussion agreed that women have to make a significant step forward themselves and take courage to take on the highest roles in society, for which mutual promotion and support are essential.
