The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, will pay her first working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on Friday 12 July 2012. This visit represents a continuation of a series of Prime Minister's visits to Slovenia's major trading partners and is primarily intended for the exchange of views with regard to the future perspectives for bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various fields. The Prime Minister will be received by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel. Their talks will be particularly focused on topical issues with which the European Union and the international community are faced.

The main purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral cooperation, given that Germany is Slovenia's most important trading partner: in 2012, the trade between the two countries reached EUR 8.49 billion, with Slovenia's exports to Germany totalling EUR 4.45 billion and Germany's exports to Slovenia EUR 4.04 billion.

One of the key topical issues faced by the European Union is the issue of employment of young people. The Prime Minister has repeatedly emphasised that young people and their employment represent one of the four priorities of her Government, which is why the Prime Minister and the German Chancellor will most certainly focus their attention to this issue as well.
