Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek today attended the ceremony held upon the handover into use of a new mammogram at Ptuj. As the speaker of honour at the ceremony, she emphasised that such events, amidst the many problems we are faced with in the political arena, fill her with joy and optimism since this new acquisition is of great importance for both women and the Slovenian society as a whole.

"Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Slovenia and worldwide. It represents one fifth of all cancer diseases suffered by women. About 12,000 women get breast cancer in Slovenia each year, but we are pleased that the recovery of patients with cancer has been significantly on the rise as well. Breast cancer is also becoming an increasingly curable disease," the Prime Minister added. Non-governmental organisations and civil associations are effectively contributing to the fact that breast cancer is no longer a taboo and that this disease is talked about more frequently. "Women know how to detect the disease early and where to get quality treatment. Awareness raising, informing and motivating the women about prevention, breast self-exam and quality treatment contribute to appropriate attention being paid to breast cancer in Slovenia and in our healthcare system," added the Prime Minister, thanking the members of the Soroptimist society and all those who contributed funds for the purchase of the new mammogram.
