Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, received the President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), George E. Killian, whose visit is related to Slovenia's bid to host the 2011 Winter Universiade.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia supports the bid of the city of Maribor and the surrounding municipalities for various reasons, among which the PM stressed the city's rich tradition in organising winter sports events, and exceptional hospitality. A successful bid and the ensuing organisation of the competition thus represent added value for both Maribor and the entire Slovenia.

The FISU President took the opportunity to commend Slovenia's candidacy, adding that the country is well capable of hosting a successful Universiade.
