Prime Minister Janez Janša lays the foundation stone of the Slovenian Mountaineering Museum

Today in Mojstrana, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša attended a ceremony marking the beginning of the construction of the Slovenian Mountaineering Museum. The PM took the opportunity to stress that it was an important project of national significance, which has every reason to count on European funds.

The PM said that mountains and mountaineering are part of our national identity, and have always been a source of inspiration for national awareness. At the same time, our mountains have witnessed both the most tragic and the most glorious moments of Slovenian history. Slovenia and Mojstrana, the town which has invested the most effort in the project, therefore deserve the Slovenian Mountaineering Museum – a place of alpine, mountaineering and mountain-climbing memories.

All those who initiated the project hope the museum will be a centre that provides new tourist opportunities in Mojstrana through various events and activities, and expand the tourist offer of Kranjska Gora and the region of Gorenjska. The PM firmly believes that Slovenia needs a place where both older and younger generations can learn about Slovenian mountains and their significance to the Slovenian people.
