Prime Minister Janez Janša and President of Eurochambers focus on the Lisbon Strategy

Today the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, met the President of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Eurochambers), Pierre Simon, who presented his host the Regional Competitiveness Atlas, which analyses the development of European regions and New Europe at work: what we need from Slovenian Presidency of the EU, a document which outlines Eurochambers' expectations regarding the cooperation with the Slovenian EU Presidency.

The PM stressed that Europe was on the right track to achieve the Lisbon goals. "However, EU member states must continue reforms and remain committed to the Lisabon goals," he said.

At the Spring Council during Slovenia's Presidency, member states will review the first three-year cycle of the Lisbon Strategy and draw up guidelines for the period until 2010. "The Strategy does not need extensive changes; however, it must be refined and upgraded in terms of the needs that have proved necessary in the first three years of its implementation," said the PM, adding that he is confident that the cooperation with representatives of Eurochambers during Slovenia's Presidency of the Council of the EU would be constructive.
