Constructive talks on the state of farming in Slovenia between PM Janez Janša and Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia representatives

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Janez Janša, today received representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia (CAFS) who informed him of the situation in Slovenian agriculture and praised good mutual cooperation to date. They drew his attention to the current market situation, with selling prices being forced down but intermediate goods prices driven up. They outlined their comments on current tax legislation and urged the State to update the land and property register to match cadastral income against the actual situation. They also proposed the re-introduction of tax relief on investments and a more appropriate tax arrangement for olive growers and beekeepers.

In the talks, the Prime Minister assured the CAFS representatives that the relevant ministries were looking into their demands and proposals and exploring appropriate ways to implement the conclusions adopted at the session of the National Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Food a week before. He advocated that subsidies be paid by the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Agricultural Markets and Rural Development as soon as possible and that a more stable information system enabling the agency to perform its work in a more timely fashion be set up. The Prime Minister also informed the CAFS representatives of the possibility, currently still under discussion, of re-incorporating into tax legislation tax relief on certain investments which are in accordance with Lisbon Strategy guidelines.
