Deputy Barbara Žgajner Tavš invited to submit invoices by Thursday morning

Despite a number of invitations, the Prime Minister’s Office has still not received the two invoices discussed with Deputy Barbara Žgajner Tavš (of the Lipa group) during the Slovenian Prime Minister’s parliamentary question time at the 38th session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.

The deputy endeavoured to base her question concerning the financial sustainability of the Republic of Slovenia given its demographic mix on the case of two senior citizens whose pensions she maintained are too low. In his answer, among other things, Prime Minister Janez Janša said that until the end of the present term of office he was willing to make up an amount justified by invoices for the two citizens in question from his own salary. He invited Mrs Žgajner Tavš to match his offer. The Deputy answered that she would be pleased to submit the two invoices to the Prime Minister. However, despite several invitations from the Prime Minister's Office, she has so far failed to do so.

We can understand the Deputy's reference to the protection of personal data only as an excuse to avoid fulfilling the promise given publicly. The Prime Minister’s Office never had any intention of publishing the personal data of the two pensioners. Should the Deputy keep her promise, their personal details will be strictly protected.

We therefore again invite Mrs Žgajner Tavš by 9 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday 8 May 2008 to submit to the Prime Minister’s Office the invoices to which she referred in the discussion of her parliamentary question. We shall take her failure to do so to mean that the two citizens in question do not really exist and that the Deputy was presenting a purely hypothetical case. The collection of invoices by the Lipa group, organised after the invitation by Prime Minister Janez Janša, is no more than an attempt to divert attention and conceal the pretence.
