Slovenian Prime Minister Janša: European Union talks not only about the consequences of the financial crisis but also the reasons for it

Prime Minister Janez Janša is attending the European Council meeting in Brussels today and tomorrow where discussions will focus particularly on the financial crisis. According to PM Janez Janša's statement upon arrival at the summit, the heads of state and government are expected to confirm the harmonised measures agreed upon last Sunday in Paris by the Eurozone leaders. Therefore, these measures should apply to the European Union as a whole.

"I expect that we will concern ourselves not only with the consequences of this financial crisis, but also with the reasons for it and their elimination," stated the Slovenian Prime Minister, accompanied at the meeting by the Slovenian ministers of foreign affairs and finance.

Moreover, the heads of state and government will discuss the Lisbon Treaty, the energy and climate package, and foreign relations, with an emphasis on taking action following the extraordinary meeting of the European Council convened on 1 September 2008 due to the crisis between Georgia and Russia.
